Principal News

Dear Parents and Families of Bayview Elementary School,

Welcome to the last week of March!

Safety First - As academic and enrichment camps continue as well as club meetings, please ensure that our front office and the classroom teacher is informed (by a parent) for any dismissal change.

Third Quarter Report Cards - This is a reminder that Report Cards and IEP/EP Progress Reports are available since Friday, in the District’s Student Information System, Focus. To view your child’s Report Card and IEP/EP Progress Reports, visit the Reports tab in the Focus Parent Portal. Detailed instructions on accessing and viewing Reports are available at browardschools.com/parentfocushelp. For additional information on how to use Focus, including getting access to the Parent Portal, visit browardschools.com/focus.  If you are unable to find the answers you need, the Focus Support Team is ready to assist you, please Email focuscommunications@browardschools.com.

Please take a few minutes to review and reflect on the academic and behavioral areas of these progress reports and continue to communicate with your child(ren)'s teacher(s) and any member of the support and leadership team.

F.A.S.T. Assessments Begin This Week  - There has been a change to the administration date of this year's B.E.S.T. Writing Assessment for Grade 5 students (from Wednesday, April 1st to TUESDAY, MARCH 31st).  In order to accommodate all students and test groups, we needed to make a change during the three-day testing window.  This assessment is 120-minutes; however, students will be able to utilize one-half of the entire school day to complete.  Once the administration begins, children cannot be admitted into the classroom.  Students are well-prepared and we are very proud of them. As Testing Season is here, please follow these tips to help students manage stress and build confidence:

  • Get a good night's sleep.  Aim for 9 - 11 hours of rest.

  • Have a healthy breakfast.  Fuel your brain for the day!

  • Listen carefully.  Ask if unsure about instructions.

  • Read all of the questions.  Don't rush, take your time.

  • Answer every question.  Make your best choice for each.

  • Relax and do your best.  You got this!  Stay calm.

  • Practice with samples.  Try fun games and practice.

  • Positive self-talk.  Believe in yourself.   Tell yourself  "I can do it!"

Congratulations second grader Mikkael Pitselnikov! - Mikkael's poster has been selected by a panel of judges to be honored at the county level in the National School Breakfast Week Poster Contest. The selected posters will be displayed in the Board Room of the Kathleen C. Wright Administrative Building during the week of April 20–23, and a special reception to honor students will be held in the Board Room.  Congratulations to you on this wonderful achievement!

Club Bayview Continues - Students may bring a snack to have in our courtyard at 2:00.  Clubs begin promptly at 2:15. At 3:15 dismissal, please use the car dash (blue) signs that were provided.  Aftercare students will be dismissed back to Bayview Bunch. Club dates for Mondays are March 30, April 13, 20, 27 and May 4. Friday dates are March 27, April 10, 17, 24, May 1 and 8.

Character Education • Self Control - You are displaying self control when you:

  • wait patiently at the bus stop or car rider area staying in line and listening for your name.

  • say no to friends that invite you to play while you are doing your homework or finishing a chore.

  • think before you speak

  • discuss rather than argue

  • learn to be objective about criticism.

  • stay calm under upsetting or stressful times

Students of the Month - We are recognizing March's Students of the Month for Character Education (Self Control) on Thursday for Grades K - 2 and on the following Wednesday for Grades 3 - 5 on WBAY with awards and treats. Parents received an invitation.
